Tree Root Removal

This blogpost is about a removing the root of the tree for a customer in Vancouver BC.

Tree Root Removal

Tree roots can become a problem when they begin to grow in unwanted directions and get in the way of a septic tank, sewer line or under a walkway or driveway.

Roots can also diminish the look of your landscape and cause a safety hazard. Whether you need dead and decaying roots removed or roots from a living tree removed, you should hire a professional to do the work.

The owner of this Vancouver home called us to come and see why their concrete tiles were lifting.

What happened when we arrived

We noticed many uneven surfaces and large trees on the property. We lifted one of the concrete tiles and noticed right away that the tree roots had taken on a life of their own under the finished concrete surface.

We let the homeowner know we would need to lift the entire concrete area in order to dig out all the roots under their driveway and walkway. After that, we would install a root barrier to prevent future damage. We would level the entire area once the roots were gone to make sure the walkway would lay flat when we put back the concrete surface.

We also knew we could save a good portion of the concrete to replace the surface when we were finished, which would save them some money.

They were happy that they would no longer have to worry about roots growing into their drainage system or someone tripping on their property.

It is very important to find a professional who specializes in concrete patios. A properly installed concrete patio can last years if its done right.
It was a nice project, worth all the time and effort that it took to get this home a new concrete patio.

Why should you hire a professional?

  • To ensure you do not hurt your back or cause damage to your landscape.
  • To ensure the correct tools for the job are used to prevent roots from growing back.

  • To repair any uneven surfaces.
  • To restore the beauty of your landscape.
  • To get qualified experience for work in tight or hard to reach spaces, and around drainage systems.

Good reasons to have your tree roots removed:

  • Exposed stumps and surface roots are a potential safety hazard and can obstruct sidewalks, driveways and foundations.
  • Reduce potential pest infestations (e.g. termites, ants, and rodents).
  • Prevent further spreading of diseased wood to healthy trees and shrubs.
  • Mowing your lawn will be easier and safe.
